PANU SAVOLAINEN HERD TRIO (Finland)

Panu Savolainen's HERD Trio is among the most potent of the new breed of forward-thinking jazz ensembles. The band gained domestic and international acclaim with their debut album “HERD Live!!”. In 2011, HERD was awarded the first prize at the “European Jazz Competition” at Holland’s North Sea Jazz Festival. Herd's no-nonsense swing is matched by canny songwriting, attention to detail and intense audience interaction. At the core of the HERD sound is the dynamic growth of the band’s compositions, which has been proven time and again at all major Finnish jazz festivals, including Pori Jazz with great success. Panu Savolainen was selected as the “Artist of the Year” by the Pori festival (2011). Trio participated in the Young Nordic Jazz Comets competition, recording for YLE’s Jazz Radio, and performed at the Grand Opening of the new Helsinki Music Centre, Finland's premier music performance centre.

"HERD’s ability to yield magic from interaction is up to par with the best of the jazz trio tradition. They are more than the sum of their parts." - Jukka Hauru, Helsingin Sanomat
